Entomologists studying the physiological traits of mosquitoes have observed that these insects show distinct sensitivity and preference for certain light types, while actively avoiding others.
Modern research shows that mosquitoes possess two compound eyes, each containing about 500 to 600 ommatidia. A greater number of ommatidia allows for wider light reception, contributing to higher light sensitivity. Scientifically, mosquitoes exhibit two types of responses to different light waves: phototactic and photophobic behavior. Blue light with wavelengths below 500nm tends to attract mosquitoes, whereas light above 500nm, especially wavelengths longer than 560nm, may prompt evasive movement in mosquitoes. Exposure to such light may also lead to uncoordinated flight and reduced activity in mosquitoes.
Drawing on the photophobic characteristics of mosquitoes, our spectral engineers have worked with biological research teams to develop a specialized spectrum designed to help repel mosquitoes using proprietary spectral technology. After repeated testing and screening across multiple spectra, a targeted spectrum formulation has been finalized to support mosquito-repellent applications.
The LED mosquito-repellent light strip developed by Mingxue Optoelectronics emits amber light, which generates light wavelengths that mosquitoes tend to avoid, helping to create a less mosquito-friendly lighting environment. The visible light output of this strip is formulated without blue and violet light components, designed to minimize potential impact on human health and the surrounding environment. It is a physical mosquito-repellent lighting product suitable for daily use.
Compared with conventional mosquito control methods, including chemical products and standard physical mosquito lamps, this product offers several practical features:
- It works through physical light-based repellency without harming organisms, supporting eco-friendly use. The spectrum is based on red and green light components, which are compatible with human visual comfort, animal breeding, and plant growth in applicable scenarios.
- It does not involve chemical substances or residues. The light source excludes blue and violet light and uses a anti-stroboscopic power supply, designed to support photobiological safety for humans and animals. The spectral configuration and lamp structure adopt patented integrated design, helping to maintain stable spectral output, extend service life, and support consistent performance.
- Studies indicate that mosquitoes tend to avoid light in the 570–590nm spectral range. This product is engineered to cover this range and help reduce mosquito presence. It avoids wavelengths below 500nm that may attract mosquitoes, supporting improved repellent performance over standard LED mosquito lamps.
- Testing shows that the mosquito-repellent coverage of this product reaches approximately 0.8 to 1 square meter per watt, making it suitable for large-area deployment. During peak mosquito seasons, it can help keep mosquitoes away from water sources and breeding areas, assisting in lowering mosquito reproduction and population levels.
- Outdoor models feature waterproof and UV-resistant construction, allowing safe use both indoors and outdoors, including residential areas, parks, and gardens.
- Built with LED technology, the product offers lower power consumption compared with traditional mosquito-repellent lamps, supporting energy-saving operation.
